On this fateful day, a man hobbled into his office asking if he would help him saying he was informed he could provide the help he required. When asked what kind of help he needed, he replied that he needed crutches and some money for transport.

Revd Mulenga initially thought there was nothing he could do for him but then he remembered that there was a pair of crutches behind the bookshelf in his office which he promptly retrieved and gave to the man together with some money he had on him.

The man went away rather satisfied by the help provided for him and Revd Mulenga on his part was rather pleased that he was able to help the man and concluded that we should never be too busy to take a break to render help to those who need it. We serve by caring and care by serving and that is our working ethos as an organisation.

CHM Zambia 4th annual health and wellness conference was held on the same day as the Nigerian conference on the 5th of December 2020. It was a well attended socially distanced conference held in Ndola’s Lowenthal theatre.

Because of the cordial working relationship CHM Zambia has enjoyed with Ndola Teaching Hospital, the hospital provided a team 15 medical professionals for the conference comprising 3 medical doctors and 12 nurses. They provided the medical check-ups and advice at the conference. In addition to this the district health office also provided a specialist clinical officer who offered some valuable health advice.

It is something of a miracle in itself that the conference was able to go ahead and indeed held face to face as in previous years considering all the constraints the COVID-19 pandemic had put on the technical aspects of planning the conference and the general activities of CHM this year. But thanks be to God that it was held successfully.

I have been a Christian since August 1979. I was appointed a church elder in our local church in Ndola in 1994 and served as a provincial treasurer of the church for 4years and later went on to chair the regional council of elders for another 8 years.

My other privileged and notable achievements include pioneering the first-ever Ndola District ChurchesProjects Fundraising Committee in 2000 and serving as the committee chairperson until 2013. In addition, l served as the chairman of our local church?s constitutional amendment processing 2008.

To date, l serve as the chairman of the first ever Christian Brethren CopperbeltMissions Committee, an organisation l helped to pioneer along with another Christiancolleague back in 2011. After my secondary school education, l went straight into employment and worked in a tea manufacturing company following which l spent 23 years working in a cement factory.

Not one to rest on my laurels, l spent my time there to undergo various training in occupational health and safety, environment logistics, crime and fraud detection. As a result of the various training and valuable experiences, l gained, l established my own company in 2014 called Techno Fire and Safety Solution Consulting Company. The experience and expertise I acquired in this field helped me to assist a friend in setting up a logistics and transporting company in Ndola, Zambia.

I went on to serve until recently as a logistics and operations manager in the company overseeing two of its units. I am happily married to my wife Jane of 28 years and we have blessed with seven children; two boys and five girls. I feel immensely privileged to be a volunteer for CHM Zambia and I am glad that three of my daughters also now serve as volunteers too.

They all help to provide catering at CHMconferences. I believe volunteering for CHM is a great opportunity to fulfill God’s great commission and to this end, I make it a point of duty to mobilise members of my local church to be part of this noble cause. My aim and I believe that of other members of CHM Zambia, is to see the organisation expand exponentially not only in Zambia but also to other neighboring countries in that part of Africa.

The event was aimed at promoting health through sport and Christ Hospital Ministry (CHM) was privileged to have provided free vital check-ups including blood sugar and body weights and other important tests. In addition, CHM was at hand to offer spiritual counsel and prayers. See photos from the day below:

It would be presumptive to think we in CHM only offer our services when prayers are needed for the sick but that would be wrong because our charitable works do extend beyond this as exemplified by the next story. CHM Zambia kindly supported a helpless elderly lady from Luapula province who needed financial support following the death of her 18-year-old grandson in Ndola.

The necessary funds needed by the lady to buy food and purchase a coffin for her late grandson?s burial was provided by CHM with the hospital management in Ndola also assisting by providing transport to convey the body of the deceased man to his village for interment.

In addition, CHM donated many useful items to some local hospitals and these included wheelchairs, reading glasses, surgical materials, clothes, bed linen, and toys. They also donated pharmaceutical consumables, bibles, and devotional books. We in CHM not only preach but demonstrate love as clearly shown by the stories above. These accounts are just some of the ways in which CHM is making an impact in the lives of people in Zambia.

Another year rolls by and our army of volunteers march on.

It has been one of mixed blessings with the loss of our treasurer in Zambia and the successful refurbishment of the chapel in Ndola Teaching Hospital in Zambia which is now regularly used for worship by those seeking spiritual sanctuary when visiting the hospital.

On another positive note, we are buoyed by the participation of the youth at our annual conference in the USA last August. What a refreshing time it was to witness their youthful exuberance at the conference. With the year almost at an end, we can only look back and recite the words of Psalm 107:8 that says, Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! On that note, we wish our donors, readers, and volunteers everywhere a very merry Christmas and all of God’s blessings for the approaching year.
